Chillicothe Cavaliers
I am HUGE Chillicothe fan, With saying that. I am kind of eary about the next few weeks of tournament play. This years team is a huge step down from last few years. And it seems like they don't know how to play with the lead, and they allow teams that aren't even in the same level of them stay close. Just like the Jackson game at Southeastern last week, They let them hang around until the last couple minutes they should have had them burried really fast. They will deffinately get past C'Ville this next week but not sure after that... Any thoughts???

GoCavs740,
Thanks for being a huge fan of the Cavs. However, you must realize that every team tear in and year out is different. This years version has it's strengths and it's weaknesses which are of no surprise based on the season as it has unfolded. We have been spoiled over the past 6 plus years with success that is rarely seen. With 4 District Championships and a chance for a 5th next week, these kids are expected to just roll over people. Now the facts:
This years defense is as good as I have seen around. We are holding teams under 50 ppg and under 40% field goal%. London is a huge part of that but the others have really stepped up. Zach Johnson did not play in 1st Warren game when French scored 40. Zach and the Cavs held him to 5 pts in game 2. Zach handled Colt Chapman admirably in the Sectional matchup. And yes our D against Sheridan was spectacular. Jalen Jones is an excellent on ball defender and the others have excelled as well. Our defense is District/Regional worthy.
This years offense is not as high octane as years past, but IMO, this group as a whole shots the ball as well as we have seen. I agree we have not buried teams throughout, but in the Post Season, it is "Survice and Advance". Offensively this team shots50% or better from the field. They just need to maximize opportunities. With London constantly getting doubled and triple teamed, the others have to continue to make shots and make good decisions. Zach J is one of the premiere scorers/players in the area. Combined with Elliott, Bixler and Jones, I like our chances.
In summary, this has been an interesting year that cannot be measured in wins/losses or margin of victory. Jones joined the program for his senior year after not playing throughout high school. We get Elliott back after not having him since his sophomore year. Bixlerhad no varsity experience and Dunn has had to play an undersized 4 position. Many people will not realize this, but the Cavs 4 spot was to be manned by Madison Simmons. An excellent athlete, rebounder and defender, who would have made a living on the backside. Unfortunately, through no fault of his he was denied eligibility. When you take all that in account, I call the season a success. Losing an All-Ohio 1st team D1 signee in Ragland. Losing a 2 year point guard in Manion. Losing the experience of Beverly and the leadership of Corcoran left the team with 2 experienced guys. Finally, a brutal non-conference schedule led to some ugly but beneficial losses. From my seat, the coaching staff has done a marvelous job keeping the kids motivated and building a team that with one more win, can join a fraternity of few others who win district championships. Even if they don't, these kids are successful in my eyes.
GO CAVS!!! ONE HEARTBEAT!

Thanks Pfloyd. I just summed up my pre-season prediction that I never posted but watched come into reality. After watching my Tar Heels dismantle the Blue Devils, I'm in a good mood. Lol

Lol. It is amazing how the Dukies are loved or hated. I wonder what the split on Carolina vs Duke gear sold up here in Chilly at Champs Sporting Goods.blackshooky wrote:not a carolina fan, but anytime duke gets dismantled i'm in a good mood to

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
The Chillicothe Cavs seem to enjoy their pressure defense. This team is fun to watch on the defensive end because I think they attack their opponents with great d. They play hard and get after their opponent. The offense is a work in progress and I feel they have improved throughout the season. I didn't realize it but Hitchbone is correct. This team really only returned 2 starters and these 2 players are the only players that had a significant amount of varsity playing time. This staff has done a tremendous job. This team may or may not win the games in the future but I do know that they will come every night and play extremely hard. I like that!

Bluecav, For some reason the numbers in our Jr/Sr classes are down in basketball and football. It is hard to develop continuity when you don't have returning experience. IMO, this patchwork group has performed above and beyond my expectations. In our 3 conference losses, we had a chance in 2 of them at the end. The first Portsmouth game saw us lose a 5 minute lead with less than 2 minutes to go. The Warren loss to end the regular season went down to the wire with the ball in Chilly's hands 3 times in the last 50 seconds. I don't live on "Ifs", but my point is the kids were right there. Take away a miserable stretch in the 3 qtr at PTown, and we might be in PFloyds top 8. Every loss this year allowed the Coaching staff to work the kids while showing them on tape what needs done. Sometimes wins in the regular season are a receipe for failure in the Post Season if your weaknesses are not exposed. That is why I love tough schedules.
In looking at our non-conference foes, I see Dublin Coffman and Columbus Eastmoor are still alive in the districts. Dayton Chaminade got beat in an overtime thriller. Only Akron Butchel failed to live up to their billing in the always tough Akron league. I'm not sure if Gahanna is still alive, but those 4 losses (we beat d1dublin Coffman) taught us a whole lot. My hope is the younger Cavs continue to understand hard work in the off season is what it takes to be successful. We have been blessed with serious talent, but everyone of those kids worked their butt's off.

7 great years...Coach K has made Chillicothe one of the best basketball programs around...look at the all the success since he has been at Chillicothe, plus the talent helps also...don't know what the future holds after this year, but from what I've been hearing the new Administration at Chillicothe is trying to run Coach K out of there..if this year is his last at Chillicothe other than Coach Cuppet,Coach K will be the best coach to ever coach the Cavs...Drbasketball2000 wrote:How long has the current coach of Chillicothe been there?

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
Hitchbone, I understand all of your points, Really I think my scare is more for next season. Next season Cavs will only return 1 starter. London, Elliott, Jones, Dunn will all be gone. Thoughts of that is kind of scary. Zach Johnson will need to be "the guy" next season and I'm not sure if he will be ready. I believe he has a HUGE upside, But he sometimes is a selfish player. He will go down the court and within a matter of seconds he will jack up a 3 and miss. And it's like he thinks he is the only player on the team.

Re: Chillicothe Cavaliers
The London boy who is a Freshmen will start Varsity next year and I hear that the best London of all is in 8th grade. Maybe he will see some varsity minutes as a freshmen but looks like in 3 years we can expect to see a two headed monster of the London boys on varsity.

I was told the London boys dad was moving to new Albany this summer so they won't be cavs next year. This was from a parent Who's kid is on the varsity. Hope he is wrong
