WK 4 COAL GROVE @ OPEN WEEK
This will sure be a hard contest for the Grove this week, but I believe they can pull it out. The only way they lose is if the quarterback throws directly at the defenders and our defense continue's to arm tackle instead of wrapping up and taking down. If those mistakes continue then I will take the open week by 14 points at the least.
Re: WK 4 COAL GROVE @ OPEN WEEK
I dont know the details of this but it is possible that a team dropped them and they didnt have time to find another game. This happen to meigs years ago when wahama dropped them mid summer cause they picked up an easy win elsewhere.NewEra wrote:Why in the world would you let this happen?

This happened because we had Pike County Central on the schedule ready to go, but before they signed the contract they backed out stating they had another game for that date. This all happened around the early to middle part of July(I think), which did not give us very much time or options to fill in that date.

Wow. I guess that's asking for it when you wait until July to sign a contract. Central wouldn't be much of a game anyway.

CG would have to beat Ready AND Fairland to even have a shot. I'm not certain that either one is highly probable.

Well according to the OHSAA their were 3 teams still with open dates and newly posted ones at that beginning in late July. Logan, East Knox, and Bishop Dwenger, Fort Wayne IN. Gotta get on the horn!2trap_4ever wrote:This happened because we had Pike County Central on the schedule ready to go, but before they signed the contract they backed out stating they had another game for that date. uahhh Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs! you kidding me? Playoffs!? I just hope CG wins the OVC.... Playoffs!? you kidding me?
Re: WK 4 COAL GROVE @ OPEN WEEK
CG would not go to the playoffs even if they had a 10-game schedule, I would venture to say. Remember, in 2009 the Hornets went 9-1 and beat a decent 5-5 Meigs team, 7-3 Valley, DII-sized Greenup County (3-7), and a 6-4 Fairland in what was essentially the OVC championship game. All of that and they got the 8th seed.
The next year, Coal Grove beat a 5-5 Athens squad (DII), 7-3 Trimble (made the playoffs, too), and an improved 5-5 Greenup County. They were murdered by Valley and upset in the final game of the year by Chesapeake, but still squeaked into the playoffs.
Greenup County dropped the Hornets, as did Trimble. Those early-season wins were what got CG into the playoffs and even that was barely enough. CG had it's opportunities to secure a quality win against Wheelersburg and again against Valley this season.

Re: WK 4 COAL GROVE @ OPEN WEEK
and there is the problem fuzz,,,,,this schedule is what everyone wanted,,,,the only problem is that this team was not ready for this type of non-conf schedule(which kills me how people say the Grove has a tough schedule, are people trying to tell me that Wheelersburg was a tougher game than Athens last year). People like to say you play tougher teams to get better, well we played tough teams last year and we still are not any better after week three. On another note, the team has to want it and I truly believe this team doesn't want it. I was at Valley last week and that team gave up,,,,,thats right,,,,gave up in the second quarter. I can't put my finger on it but it feels to me and I have had this feeling for a couple of years now and that is that the current versions of the Coal Grove Hornets don't have that fire and/or desire to succeed. They don't hold proper technique's on offense or defense and when you put your entire offense on the back of your quarterback you limit yourself to what you can do. What I would like to see the Grove do is get back to Grove football. Let's run the ball, we will have a pass or two in there and then play sound defense where you defense actually wraps up the ball carrier and takes him to the ground, if I see one more arm tackle I am going to be sick.fuzzhead wrote:CG would not go to the playoffs even if they had a 10-game schedule, I would venture to say.
