Big One This Week- Zane Trace vs Southeastern Friday

Post by MRI13 »

Who are you going to take? things to watch for?

After a disappointing loss for Piketon last Friday and an ugly win vs McClain Saturday ZT is going to have to find the "fire" in practice this week. Their team has everything it needs to be a championship team. I just do not see a true leader out there yet, a guy who is going to get his teamates pumped up, someone who WANTS IT. Seems like Coach Alley is the only one with any fire out there.

I think Mowery is Mowery...he is going to get his. Would like to see him penetrate more and finish, hes too fast and a great FT shooter to boot. Connor Smith needs to become a MAN and work down low and finish. Hes an incredible player...just needs to be stronger at the rim. Id like to see ZT get out a run, maybe sit Petzel for a bit and run with the other starters and Hinty or Nesser.

As for SE...I have yet to see them play but I know that Cartee, Allen and Hice are all capable of controlling a basketball game. Rebounding edge wins the game in my opinion.

If SE tries their press they ran against Unioto, then ZT will have a big game in transition. It didn't work that night and ZT will burn it on Friday as well.

If Petzel gets in foul trouble, ZT won't have a banger to force Hice away from the hoop where he's far less dangerous.

Zane Trace should own the boards, but can't lose Cartee and Dye on the perimeter. If SE shortens their rotation for this game, I think they have a better shot as well.

X Factors are Jordan Allen and Brian Hall. Whatever they can contribute offensively will be huge for their teams.

I think ZT wins, a close game if it's a half court game, if they are pressed, they win by double digits.

Good insight...

I would have felt the same before last weekend...this team has lost something. I dont know if its from the break or what it is...but they havent been playing like they were at the first of the year. Better get it figured out quick...got SE, UHS and LE in the next few weeks

Things definitely looked off against McClain. I think they get things righted this weekend, but SE is no slouch and can definitely put up some points. Should be a fun game.

Haven't seen SE, but was surprised that my Red Streaks beat ZT Friday. Mowery became an outside shooter when he could've beaten anyone off of the dribble and taken it to the hoop. Connor Smith became an observer when the outside shooting started after dominating the glass in the 1st quarter. It seemed like ZT panicked in the 2nd half on offense, settling for 3's against the zone instead of working it around and inside.

These teams have beat few quality opponents so far. ZT did beat Unioto early in OT. UHS shot terrible at the line. McClain will be around a .500 team by the end of the season. I would be surprised that Zane Trace loses to Southeastern at home. Southeastern will be ready though. A lot a former ZT experience on their bench.

Yea but not the same system at ZT now. Youre looking at a Larry Jordan/Rick Uhrig inspired system and not a Kellough system..

Cox is a great basketball mind and I am sure he will have his kids ready

I am not talking about systems. A successful coach should develop his own system anyway. Not copying it from somebody else. I am talking about the SE bench that coached or played at Zane Trace that would loved to beat them.

I don't think I would call Cox a great basketball mind, the jury is still out IMO. I have heard that Kellough does most of the coaching, esp. in practice. I think it is a mistake that Cox refuses to play zone. If he would have played zone against Unioto, they might have beat them. I look for a good one Friday, it usually is at the Pit.
