Former University of Florida coach Urban Meyer has agreed in principle to a seven-year, $40 million deal to become the new coach of Ohio State, according to a WKMG-TV report Tuesday night, which cited sources.
The report said Meyer, 47, would be introduced in the coming days.
The sources said Meyer would bring a number of Florida's current assistant coaches with him, including Gators linebackers coach D.J. Durkin, who would become defensive coordinator.
Florida's strength coach Mickey Marotti was also set to join Ohio State as director of football operations.
Ohio State interim coach Luke Fickell would remain with the team as assistant head coach, the report said.
Meyer stepped down as Florida's head coach in 2010 citing health concerns, but told the Gainesville Sun on Monday that he felt strong enough mentally and physically to make a return to coaching.

That is great news.
I am glad we got Meyer and ecstatic that Fickell is going to stay on as the assistant head coach. Hopefully he will be groomed and will eventually take over once he is ready.

ESPN is reporting that Meyer has NOT accepted the job yet, but expects an official announcement to be made.
Re: Urban Meyer OSU agree to 7 yrs deal
I'm sure the denial will continue until after this weekend sometime. With Adolphus Washington making the statement he thinks he'll be playing for Meyers and not Fickell, you have to wonder if that was just his opinion or he was slipped a little inside info.
I think it would be a good pickup. Should help with the recruiting immediately.

Fickell assistant head coach? hum sounds they would be setting him up to be head coach again if Meyer leaves early, has a coach ever been head coach 2 different times at the same school? Maybe John Robinson at USC ?

Excited to hear this news, and I'm very glad that Meyer plans to keep Fickell on staff.

I thought this man had health issues and needed to step away and spent time with family? It's amazing how a few million greenbacks will change a persons mind real quick..

Re: Urban Meyer OSU agree to 7 yrs deal
This is the first coach I've been excited about at OSU since Woody was forced to retire. Even when he loses it's exciting so let the beatdowns begin with a northern ohio guy who knows how to put the knockout on people, can coach both sides of the ball and won't cringe and shut down the offense when he get's a lead. Fullspeed ahead as I see a couple national titles on the horizon for the bucks. The only part I don't like is that he's getting about $2 million more "a year" than Tress got but OSU has some of the deepest pockets of any college football program in the nation so they might as well spend the money on a head football coach.

This reminds me alot of the Les Miles situation where espn and everyone said he was the new michigan coach ,then it didnt happen.I will beleive this when i see him standing beside Gene and Gordan saying he is excited to be our new head coach.
