Congrats to a fine young man. These scout team players work harder than the ones and twos. Spanky and I had the honor of spending some time with KC at Media Day last year. I asked KC if he knew Spanky and he said no but he knew Spanky's wife, who by the way, works in the school system at Rock Hill. Again congrats to KC on this award.

KC has received this honor twice this year and works hard to acheive his goals, he is a great young man in all walks of life and I'm proud that he's a Buckeye.
Stay tuned for tomorrow's Herald-Dispatch and a great article about KC written by our own Billy Bruce.

You can find this story tomorrow on this link:

Christian Finds Motivation In Tiny Package

December 04, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

BILLY BRUCE

The Lawrence Herald

PEDRO, Ohio -- K.C. Christian has found his motivation in life.

She is a 6-month-old baby named Keira.

Christian, a redshirt sophomore on the Ohio State Buckeyes football team, obviously has plenty of drive. The former star student-athlete from Rock Hill High School accepted an academic scholarship to OSU just a few years ago. He then walked-on to one of the best college football teams in the entire nation.

His inner drive to excel landed him exactly where his dreams led: a scarlet-and-gray uniform.

But the ride has been bumpy.

Although he was a member of the OSU team, Christian didn't particularly feel like he belonged. He questioned himself, his worth, his ability. Even though he was one of only 105 players out of literally thousands who wanted to be Buckeyes, Christian didn't initially feel worthy.

Things have changed since then.

The once self-doubting member of the OSU scout team is now aware of not only his abilities, but his responsibilities.

It took a little girl to give him the confidence of a man.

"This little girl has humbled me a lot," he said of Keira, his daughter with fiancee Leah Hankins. "She puts things in perspective. She has given me someone to want to be better for."

Speaking of perspective, let's back-track. This young man was a stud athlete, an All-Ohio selection at running back his senior year at Rock Hill. His grades in high school were good enough to earn him a free ride at Ohio State. At a very early age, he definitely had his priorities set.

What did he lack? Believe it or not, it was confidence.

But Keira changed all of that.

"Someday, somebody is going to say to her, 'Your daddy played at Ohio State.' I want something good to come from that conversation," he said.

To say that Keira changed Christian's attitude would be an understatement. Suddenly, he had purpose that showed on the field. Twice this season, he was named Scout Team Player of the Week, an award given to individuals who give maximum effort in preparation for the coming week's game.

As the only Rock Hill High School grad to ever wear the scarlet and gray, Christian understands that people from his home town are watching his progress. He speaks every year at Rock Hill Middle School to encourage kids to not only pay attention to their grades, but to their maker.

"I have a responsibility to younger people to let them know, 'Hey, I'm doing what I want to do and you are doing what you want to do. But, neither one of us can do anything without God.'"

Two years ago, Christian stood in front of the RHMS eighth-grade class holding an airless football. He said, "This was my life before Jesus Christ. Deflated. Without Him I couldn't do anything."

Thanks to a heavenly gift named Keira, he says, his life is now inflated.

"She's such a blessing," he said. "She has totally changed my life."

You won't see the work No. 46 puts into the OSU program on game day, at least not yet. He toils behind the scenes, making sure the players you see performing on Saturdays have had their best look at the opposition.

But he finally feels like he's a part of the team.

"I feel like I belong now," Christian said. "When I look back, it will all be about knowing I did what I could with what I had."
