2020 Minford 6 - 42 Waverly

Post by mattash »

Two of the best QB's in SEO going at it. Thoughts?

This game will have a lot to do with deciding the SOC championship

I wish the Falcons luck, but Waverly found its running game tonight. Minford's DB's are better than burgs, so Waverly will go to their newly found ground game. I expect a shoot out, but only luck will help the Falcons next week at home.

Minford, I'm still shaking my head for the second straight year with Oak Hill WTF?!?!?! The first half looked like absolute crap and it took until the second half to start playing ball. Some great catches by Skaggs and Risner but too little too late. Get to work Falcons!

It's not that, it's more of the Oak Hill curse. Minford's never faired great against the Oaks. Oak Hill views this as a rivalry game and always comes to play.

A falcon win in this game creates a 2 way tie for first in the SOC, but I don't see that happening. Waverly by 3 scores.

Minford can sling it. If they can get in a shootout, they have a chance

Waverly is going to enjoy last nights victory an extra day, too early to start this thread.
See ya tomorrow.

This could be an interesting matchup. If Waverly doesn’t come prepared they will be in for a fight.

I just hope this game gets played... Quiet whispers going around that Waverly may go remote for the next two weeks and possibly shut down extracurriculars during that time as well. I hope the rumor isn’t true, but I won’t be surprised one bit.

There will be a riot if they shut down football season for the Tigers at this point.

I agree. But I think their thought is if they shut down now then hopefully the small spike of cases the school is seeing will be taken care of and then the playoffs won’t be in jeopardy. Like I said, just a rumor going around. We will have to see if anything is said this weekend.

Man. This question has not malice intent to it but if Waverly has to cancel and for some reason can’t make up games would that be considered losses? Surely the coaches would recognize Waverly 2020 as champions.

Totally valid question. I was wondering the same thing. Idk how this would work. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that. But with both the JV and Varsity volleyball teams for Waverly having to be quarantined due to a few positive tests on the team and 4 football players who did not get to come to the game with two of those players being varsity who would have played last night. It just doesn’t look good...

Minford has the talent to turn this into a shoot out, and after watching burg against Waverly I believe ELV could have a lot of rushing yards. Minford hasn't faced a team that has the ability or want to to air it out like Waverly does, so we'll find out exactly what Minford pass defense can do. I expect a bit of a lull from Waverly if they can handle the initial Minford shots I look for Waverly in this one by 2-3 scores. Given Minford season and coming off the oaks game, will they come out to play or close up shop is the question. Minford defense is giving up close to 26ppg that doesn't bode well.

Minford is 11-34-1 all-time vs Waverly. Minford wins:
1984: 14-13
1985: 14-7
2000: 46-22
2003: 28-6
2004: 14-7
2008: 42-14
2009: 14-7
2010: 48-6
2012: 48-7
2013: 14-6
2014: 34-0

9 of the total games in this series have been decided by a touchdown or less.

I watched the 1985 game at Waverly. Game called because transformer blew, finished on Saturday. I believe 7-7 Friday? Both teams were great both teams were even on the field. Minford was state-semi finalist CAPE-beat them at Cooper Stadium. Also didn’t go back on Saturday

They absolutely do offensively. They will be better to run between the tackles than burg did and burg did well against Waverly. The reason being is EVL can run the zone keep something burgs QB doesn’t. Harder to key on from the LB. Waverly will be fine offensively. I don’t think minford has the tools to get many stops defensively
