In some aspects this is true. If Huntington played and beat Ironton then they did what they were supposed to do. If they lose then it's a loss to a smaller school from across the river. Not much to gain in that regard.

That is sort of true, while Ironton is a good program in the WVSSAC they’d be class A which does not yield a ton of points for Huntington who is AAA. And with how the playoff point structure has changed in WV not a ton of points for beating Ironton and who Ironton would beat down the road. Cabell-Midland must not have cared and just wanted to play solid competition
