Week 4: Gallia Academy (0-3) @ Portsmouth (2-1)

Post by BuckeyeBlood »

Gallia has been pretty bad through the first 3 weeks. Portsmouth coming off their first loss to a good Greenup team. Do the Blue Devils get in the win column for the first time this year or do the Trojans pick up their first OVC win of the season?

As much as I hate to say it, I think Devils fall to 0-3 this week. Highlight will be dinner at The Ribber.

Somewhat unrelated, but does anyone know how the Jr High and JV teams are doing so far? Numbers?

As far as this game goes, Devils will score some points, but Portsmouth probably takes it at home.

Portsmouth wins fairly easy. Gallia is not good this year. But if Gallia can pass they have a chance. Greenup exposed Trojans pass game but I think Portsmouth by 21 or more.

The QB can sling it and it's looking like the passing game is slowly coming together. Could be a high scoring game.

The Blue Devils are off to a terrible start so far this season. Do they want to be a player in the OVC this season? I think that maybe they are starting to play a little better. The Trojans ran into a pretty good team this past weekend in Greenup. Not only do the Trojans have the home field advantage, I think they will be too much for the Blue Devils.

I know Gallia is down this year, but Portsmouth can’t take them lightly. The Trojans have not fared well against GA most seasons. This is the opportunity to give them a little taste of their own medicine so to speak. Portsmouth hasn’t beat Gallia since 2016. They’ve lost several close games, 3 point OT loss, a 2 point controversial game a few years back in Portsmouth. They’ve also been blown out a few times, like last year when they gave up 50. It would be nice to finally get not only a win but a convincing win over the Blue Devils. Go Trojans!

Long time river rivalry. You have the all time history between Portsmouth and GA? Been a long time since I've seen anything in the way of older GA history. Not since Jottings was still here with us.

If I remember correctly Gallia played the “Harbaugh” card in ‘21.
Pulled out all the stops to keep the Trojans from getting in the Win column.

Good info, portsmouth98.......I always like historical records, and it's quite evident that Gallia has dominated us. This should be the year to notch another win, but we have to rebound from the loss to Greenup.

I remember standing on the levee at Spartan Stadium in 1971, watching the Blue Devils beat the Trojans 12-6. I believe our coach was Paul Mentis.

Gallia also beat our 2002 playoff team at Spartan Stadium in the regular season.

Last year was a nightmare.......it was 30-0 GAHS after the 1st quarter.

Also love the historical information... and this is a serious question.... how long would it have taken to get a team from gallia to portsmouth or vice versa....in 1915...?? Horse and buggy? Did they take the river? What is it about 100 miles? Would love to hear that story..

It's possible they took a boat but I would guess they took a train. Railways were much more abundant in those days. It's also only 42 miles by modern road so I'd say a train ride wouldn't be much longer than an hour or two.
