Wk 10: Athens (9-0) @ Nelsonville-York (7-2) TVC-Ohio Championship
For the first time in awhile week 10 will decide the TVC-Ohio Champ. NY will look to capture their 26th TVC title and bring the Doc Kroner trophy home. On the other side Athens looks to remain perfect and finish with a top 4 playoff spot. This will be the 45th edition of this rivalry game.
Go Bucks!!

I would have to take the Bulldogs over the Buckeyes in this one.

A Buckeye upset might get 1-9 Logan into the playoffs.... which is an insane thing to actually type.

Honest question but how close is Athens to being a D4 school? Feel like they would do decent in D4 but their region is so tough

269 is D4. Athens is 283. I think Athens wants to take less open enrollment with the new school so they should be D4 here soon

Athens is 296. The smallest school in D3 is Circleville at 263. Athens has 33 teams below them in D3 according to the OHSAA site. I don’t see them dropping 36 kids or moving below 33 teams anytime in the near future.Raider6309 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 1:44 pm269 is D4. Athens is 283. Athens also only has a CB number of 13. Even with no move ins, Athens is still 20 away from the smallest in D3.
Just to put it in perspective, Athens is larger than Warren, Jackson, Bloom Carroll, Hillsboro and John Glenn.
What do the class sizes for Athens look like in the middle school ranks? If they are an average of 15 less than the current high school classes, I suppose there is a chance they could drop sometime in the next 5-6 years.
As for the game, I think Athens has a great shot at finishing the year 10-0 but the Buckeyes traditionally play them tough. I could see this one being close for a good while with the dogs pulling away late.

Looks like Athens is finally healthy again!

Hard to go against the yorkies at home. When you go down there you have to play a perfect game. I’ll go with York by 6 in the upset.

The D3/D4 line is hard to project. One issue is, in D4, you may see NDCL and Alter move up next year on CB's; if not, two seasons from now when the EMIS numbers get updated. That would also, plausibly, apply to Jonathan Alder. At the same time, if you look at the low end of D2, it's plausible that the likes of Piqua, Sandusky, Louisville and Trotwood move down into D3 (which in theory elevates the cutoff line between D3 and D4 in the process.)Dundas wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 4:29 pmAthens is 296. Controversial ending? Anybody have a good angle? Couldn’t see it from where I was.

Here's the stream. Impossible to tell anything from that angle, but something you can at least view.Glousterite wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 9:19 pm Controversial ending? Anybody have a good angle? Couldn’t see it from where I was.
