OHSAA making this announcement shows that there will be Regional and State Semi-Finals games at the Fairgrounds. If only District games being played there the OHSAA would not be making this grand announcement.

I really don’t enjoy watching games at the Fairgrounds. You’re low and far away from the action.

I understand why they would go back, with its history and $10-15 parking, but unless a local is playing, I’ll probably avoid it.

The Barn isn’t what it used to be. For the Central District, though, it’s a nice reprieve from the awful situation at ODU.

Surely the semi finals for each division will be played in the same venue on the same day, correct? In other words, they would not pit the Northeast region vs the Central/Southeast region against each other at the Fairgrounds and then have the Northwest and the Southwest play at Wright St as an example.

This will also mean less hotel income for Dayton moving forward if teams are not traveling there to stay. No idea if that was a bargaining chip in negotiations when OHSAA agreed to go to Dayton or not.

Doubt 2 State Semi-Finals from the same Division will be at the same location- OHSAA will announce the State Semi-Finals matchup after the Regionals are held. This set up is very much like Indiana HS basketball tourney. They may have 2 or 3 games at the same location but are from different Divisions.

I would think it would make scouting a lot tougher unless they have to exchange films. I know they had to exchange films once they got to the regionals starting a few years ago. Is that still the case?

... I totally agree daniC, I hate watching hoops at the Fairgrounds - as you mentioned , you are a mile away from the court ... in high school hoops the atmosphere IS a big part of the experience - the atmosphere at the Fairgrounds is terrible - the crowd is taken out of the game just by the seating being low, distance from the court ... they hinted about this last season, I thought they would get enough blow-back that they would drop it BUT apparently not, the $10-$15 parking to go with ticket prices were too much to pass up I guess ... disappointing decision imo ...

I agree that atmosphere should be a big part of the selection process. For my money, St John's was the best venue. The seat were a little cramped but there was nothing like it. I always whished they could have put in new seats, even if it took capacity down to 9-10,000 it is just right on top of the court. Great for the fans and probably just a incredible for the players.

Whether it was the expansion to seven divisions that drove it first, or the Central District being at its wits end by now with Ohio Dominican, it’s really a combination of the two that created the move back to The Barn.

With OSU out of the picture, and the only other off-ramp from ODU being Capital U, The Barn is where these games have to go. The Central District has been desperate to get out of ODU for years, now, and for one reason or another the alternatives of Capital and even the Convo have not materialized beyond a year.
