Football/Soccer
Football/Soccer
Here is a question for all you SEO posters.... why does some schools allow the school-sponsored high school soccer teams (girls and boys) to play games on the football field and others have to use an inadequate field when a better facility is available? Many of the secondary fields don't have locker rooms, lights, and often holes where players get hurt. The teams are more than willing to pick up a soccer player for special teams (field goals and kickoffs),but the soccer player's team can't use the facilities. I am sure this is a Title IX violation especially if it is a co-ed soccer team.
Re: Football/Soccer
The simple answer is that more of the administrators, school boards, students and community members care more about the football programs than they do about the soccer programs. I'm not sure that we can use Title IX to guarantee all athletic programs get equal support— just that they get enough support to operate.
But also, plenty of soccer coaches don't like playing on the football field because it's a smaller field and the ball plays differently on artificial turf.

Re: Football/Soccer
May as well name names. What’s schools are playing soccer on a pasture while football is on a fairway in the area?
Re: Football/Soccer
Since public schools receive federal funding, they must comply to equal opportunities to all boys and girls teams. Title IX compliance must be across the board with all sports teams in a public HS. All K-12 programs must have equal opportunities and benefits of every other team in the district. How is this possible when a team is forced to play in a field with no lights when other teams have nice facilities? Teams even have to have equal quality uniforms and apparel as any other program.
Here is a nice article to inform yourself about the rights of the students:

A football team has a nice field, they should be allowing all teams to practice and play games on it.

based on sex in their programs or activities."
That means boys and girls need equal opportunities for participation— it does not mean basketball and archery need equal facilities. The long-time response that has held up legally just fine to the argument that football doesn't accommodate female athletes is access to girls-only programs like volleyball. Regarding uniforms— most of the schools I know of have the uniforms paid for by the athletic boosters. The boosters also supply a lot of other equipment. I'm not sure how those decisions are evaluated against Title IX since it's an organization separate from the school system. But those boosters will tell you that most of their money comes from the boys basketball programs and the football program.
All that said—I'm a soccer advocate 100%. Talk to your school's athletic director about your issues. Go to the athletics boosters meetings. Write the school board...Realistically, find support to invest in improving the soccer site. The law isn't your answer.
I've kept track of this issue across a lot of school systems I visit. Nobody has a perfect situation, which would be a dedicated game field and a separate dedicated practice field:
— Marietta: dedicated soccer game field (off-campus), limited shared practice space with private youth soccer program (off-campus)
— Warren: dedicated soccer game field, limited shared practice space with other activities
— Athens: games played on artificial football field, dedicated practice space
— Alexander: games played on natural football field, large practice space shared with youth soccer but I believe owned by the school
— Belpre: games played on the natural football field, limited dedicated practice space

I was just quoting it from the article I pinned to the post. Just review it and see what you think.SoccerDad wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 5:27 pmThis is not correct. Re: Football/Soccer
I was appalled back in the Fall when I went with a friend to his child’s soccer game. I was thinking it would be played at the football field only to find out the team isn’t allowed to play on the football field. They are told they have to play in a field behind one of their elementary schools. There were no lights and very limited bleachers. It just seems so wrong when the district has a turfed football field with concessions, nice restrooms, and plenty of seating. How is that ok???

No, you always think every thread is about you and seem paranoid about it. Is there something we need to know?? The last two threads I have personally started about things I have learned about recently. I just float around and read/respond where I see fit like everyone else. You don’t have to comment unless you have something to add to the conversation. Where does your soccer team play or do you even have a soccer team??TigerBob wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 6:46 pm BurgFan43 registered last year. Re: Football/Soccer
How about this. Which school did your friend’s kid attend? The one with the field behind the elementary, no lights, limited seating? If it exists, I will apologize.
Re: Football/Soccer
How about what Mr. Bob?? I’m not exactly sure if you want to know what school they attend or what school they were playing at?? I assure you that it exists. I sat there and watched a game. Have you ever been to a soccer game yourself??
Re: Football/Soccer
Here’s what I am saying. You are not from Wheelersburg. You have some agenda against Ironton’s athletic department. I think I know why.
I say you didn’t go to this field because it doesn’t exist. Nor does this friend. You are using this thinly veiled excuse to dig at/do research on Ironton’s soccer field. I can tell this from the language you used. “They were told” “Title IX violation” etc. Pointing it straight at athletic department.
Now, all you have to do is point me towards what field you attended. Say it’s Lucasville. I’ll look it up on Google, see that I’m wrong, and apologize. But you can’t, because I’m right.

Here is the thing that I have learned on this forum. It wouldn’t matter if I personally drove a few people on SEO to the soccer field to show you, you would still have some wild conspiracy theory. I assure you that I do not have any agendas against any school or departments. Some people just think it is the world against us. Let’s get back to the topic at hand of soccer and football fields.
Re: Football/Soccer
In other words, yes it was Ironton you are correct TigerBob.
I hope you at least went to the trouble of looking at Google Earth for a few schools to see if you could find a match.
I bet your next topic will be “I was talking to a guy and he said there are coaching staffs in SEO where the coach hires his brother as a coordinator. Do all schools do this and can anyone point me to a law where it’s not allowed?”

Re: Football/Soccer
Oh I feel sorry for some people who think the world is against them with everything. I’m sorry if I offended you because it was never intended. I’m sorry to tell you though that you aren’t correct. As I said, I am in no commitment to prove anything to you. You decided to comment on this thread. When you clicked on the link, we were talking about soccer and football fields. I’m glad you are educating yourself though with the educational discussions we are having about the topics. It is much more enlightening than some of the other topics on here right now.TigerBob wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 10:04 pm In other words, yes it was Ironton you are correct TigerBob.

Re: Football/Soccer
Yes it is important to me. I am getting my doctorate in sports administration in hopes to one day getting a $9k AD supplemental.
Re: Football/Soccer
Well, that is what most makes since they have a daytime job as a teacher, assistant principal, or works outside of the school. It is a paid as a supplemental in 95% of SEO schools. We already proved that. You probably don’t need a doctorate though unless you have aspiration to work at the college level. We also ironed those details out for you.TigerBob wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 10:20 pm Yes it is important to me. Keep setting goals for yourself so you stay busy and not think the world is against you.

Re: Football/Soccer
Gallia Academy has a separate grass field for soccer adjacent to the high school. Unioto plays on a wonderful Bermuda grass soccer field. Hillsboro has a soccer/track complex at its high school.
Re: Football/Soccer
I have heard about Unioto soccer field is one of the best!! Does it have lights and adequate seating for fans??GrumpyPundit wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 12:03 am Gallia Academy has a separate grass field for soccer adjacent to the high school.
